This may allow things to push through your driveway, cracking the surface, ruining the look that you worked hard to achieve and allowing grass to grow there.
Asphalt Driveway Cost
Asphalt driveway cost is about $140-$180 per 1000 square feet if the driveway is in pristine condition, making it much cheaper to do this project yourself. Depending on the area and state you reside in, asphalt prices can be higher than average. If you decide to hire a paving contractor, shop around to find who offer the best and lower asphalt cost.
Asphalt sealing should be done in the spring or summer. This is the best time to apply asphalt sealer on your driveway but it can be attempted at any time when the temperature is above 50 degrees and it will not rain for at least three to four days. Further, sealer should be reapplied every three years to ensure maximum protection.
How To Apply Asphalt Sealer
- Clean the surface of the asphalt. Scrub away any visible imperfections with a cleaner made for this purpose, such as Accepta 7121. Remove grass from the edges of the driveway.
- Sweep to remove any dirt or dust, and then wash off the area with a strong spray of water like that from a pressure washer to remove any remaining dirt. If any cracks have already formed, patch them up before sealing the asphalt.
- Turn asphalt sealer upside down to pre-mix contents. Open the sealer container right-side up and continue to stir. Throughout the process, repeatedly stir the sealer so that it remains well-mixed.
- Starting in one area, spread sealer over approximately a ten to twenty foot square area. Apply with long-handled brush or squeegee. Don't use large amounts at once; instead, apply sealer in thin coats that overlap. Repeat until entire surface is covered.
- Do not drive on a just finished asphalt sealer for at least 24 hours. Ensure this by blocking off area with tape and cones.
Safety Tips: Avoid inhaling the fumes or allowing sealer to touch your body. Use appropriate safety gear including masks and gloves.
